Video: The sights and sounds of the Grand-Am of the Americas

The Grand-Am series rolled into Austin, Texas this past weekend, and our man Philip Thomas secured a few prime viewing spots of the on-track action. We’re happy to report that Friends of Hooniverse Turn Motorsports had an excellent weekend. Driver’s Bill Auberlen and Paul Dalla Lana pushed the number 96 Turner BMW to a GS-class victory.

Enough talk though, I know you want to listen to glorious noises produced on the COTA tarmac. Click past the break for some visual and auditory delights.

I watched the race on speed this afternoon… It seemed to me that they where caught off gaurd by turn one.

Turn one is pretty tricky. It's fast, blind, and a crest at the apex. They were having a tough time at turn 12 (The later clips), too.

Great footage! At the end there, you can really tell how much longer the GT and GX cars have to brake into a corner.
As an aside, I really hope the merger announcement on 3/14 will include plans to speed up the DP's. They simply need more power (and another gear or two). There is talk of bringing them more on par with LMP2, and I hope it really happens.

Their straight-line acceleration from the slower corners wasn't much faster than the GT or GX cars it seemed like. The DPs are all mid-500 hp.

    Nice shots!
This year, my buddy is trying to get us into the garage and paddock areas during GP week/weekend.

I was planning on going but the kid has had to attend school on Saturday.
There's a "No Child Left Behind" slam in there somewhere.
Anyone going to the V8s? I'm gonna make it back down there for at least another event.

Not going, but will be watching without a doubt. It's one of those can't-miss events, in my opinion.

Daytona Prototypes going that fast through an s-bend?
I need to see F1 cars there.
    And those elevation changes…
P.S. Some of the auditory delights deserve to accompany Hooniverse title card.

They have plenty of downforce for killer cornering speeds, but still look "Slow" compared to F1. Holy hell, they're scary fast.
The course is a blast to drive on, and elevation changes make for some very, very fun flat-out corners.
