Reader Find: Flossin' as all heck in a Mercedes-Benz 230S 'Camino

Mercedes-Benz 230S El Camino

The W110 Mercedes-Benz is a classically cool machine that combines the standard vintage style you’d expect from an old German machine with a dash of rare exterior flourishes. The car has fins, a great face, and wonderfully sculpted wheel openings. It’s a classic for sure. Reader Otto Nobedder managed to spy a rather unusual looking Benz at a local shopping center.

What you’re looking at is a W110 Benz that has been transformed into a car-truck. There are two questions I have for the owner, who told Nobedder that he preformed the work himself.

1) Excellent work, I don’t have a question here just taking a moment to congratulate you.

and

2) What do we call this? Is it an Benzamino, Benzchero, or Bampage? Check out another shot after the break.

Thanks for the pics Otto!

  1. Does that read "COUPI" just below the dealer ID tag on the rear trunk/tailgate? Could this be a new, previously unheard of name for these sweet car/trucks?
Also, what's up with the bitcoin link? Working that Ponzi scheme hard aren't ya?

    1. oooh, wait – it's your sly way of letting us know we can redeem our Hooniverse/Atomic Toasters/ID points for Bitcoins! ha ha ha ha ha ha, we'll be INTERNET rich!

    2. hahahaha… Tim and I were talking about Bitcoins yesterday, I must've copy/pasted that into the article accidentally.

  2. these actually exsist dont they? they made hurses from them. didnt they make flower cars as well?

        1. El Benzo! Perfect, EOD.
Excellent link! ETA: turn off your sound before checking out the slideshows – annoying auto-play music is annoying!

        2. And designed by Paul Bracq himself ! Getting the cars original designer to design your utility conversion must be nearly as good as a factory job itself !

    1. I was going to ask.. Why did he leave that rear door there? The rest of the work seems fairly flawless from the pictures. Could it be structural? I wouldn't think so, but stranger things have happened, I'm sure? How hard can it be?

WTF?! You go ahead and make a truck out of a four door car but don't shave the rear door or handles?! Craftsmanship notwithstanding, this is a huge and glaring oversight.

    1. I'm only guessing here, but it could be that the rear doors are repurposed as spare tire and/or toolbox covers. It would make more sense than having to access these things via the load area.

      1. On professional cars (hearses and flower cars, some coachbuilders left the doors for this purpose. The more well-known coachbuilders did away with that on flower cars but a number of hearses and ambulances store their spare tire in a space that looks like a step when you open the rear door. The other side was storage or additional battery, etc.

  4. Thanks For Nice Posts this truly nice Post and Pictures and i hope more good information this site soon, i love my W108 and Today is very important for us to maintenance our cars but i am happy for mbzparts workshop who solve my all problems

  5. Hey there would you mind stating which blog platform you’re using?
I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m having a tough time choosing
    between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your layout seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something
unique. P.S Sorry for being off-topic but I had to ask!
