Once again, we are treated to….. wait, didn’t I already use this introduction? Well then, here’s more pictures from Hooniverse Legend Mike the Dog. This time it’s at the Orphan Car Show Cruise, and since you have already wasted your Sunday looking over the Lingenfelter Collection, why not enjoy these images. More after the jump….

    1. i love me some Vee Dubs… but… i'd much rather have seen any of the other brands featured in that commercial stick around and 1st gen VW beetles (or super-beetles…. yes, it made a big difference) be produced with no changes to this day

      1. Good stuff. If they still made 1st gen beetles(with IRS rear ends[unlike stupid mexico{using swing axels(NADER)}]) today I think it would still be a common commuter car know for reliability and good efficiency. The only things that really went bad on the old ones have been replaced by modern technology like the wiring rats nest and the wet-match ignition.

  1. Unfortunately, the Orphan Car Show was flooded out of its venue, but an impromptu show was held behind the Hudson dealer. I'll have pics of that in my photostream later today.

  2. Nice cars, all of them. But, just out of curiousity, do those Corvairs and that SM technically qualify as "orphans" as their manufacturors, Chevrolet and Citroen, still produce automobiles? Still nice stuff and thanks for sharing.

    1. Great question. The basic policy for the Orphan Car Show, I believe, is that the brand couldn't have been built for fifteen years if it's domestic or imported for fifteen years if it's an import. The Citroen clearly qualifies in that respect. As far as the Corvair; even though it was just a model of Chevrolet, a special exception is made because it was built in Ypsilanti.

    2. That's an excellent question, longrooffan. For the purposes of this show an orphan is any brand that has had no US sales presence for at least seven years, and all cars must be at least eleven years old. There are some interesting exceptions to this, like Corvair (which was in reality a sub-brand of Chevrolet and this year's featured marque) and Continentals Mark I and II, which are accepted to the show. Also, Plymouths are only eligible if they are from 1959 or earlier (I assume this is to keep it from becoming a '68-'70 B-Body show).

      1. The Continental Mark II was considered by FoMoCo to be its own marque separate from Lincoln – it even had (at least on paper) its own Continental division. It would therefore qualify as an orphan. The Mark I, however, was officially a Lincoln.
