Consumer Reports is a great resource if you’re interested in buying the best dishwasher or are wondering which cell phone company is going to screw you the least. When it comes to car and truck recommendations however, well, I don’t know if I’d use them as the sole decision reinforcement tool. Much like J.D. Power and others, CR does offer a comprehensive guide to the expected reliability of new cars and trucks, but unlike those other arbitrators, the magazine also offers an annual list of their picks of the worst cars, and that list was released just yesterday. 

According to The Detroit Bureau, this year’s list is broken out in by size and social status, and contains the following cars: The Smart ForTwo, Scion iQ and tC, Chevrolet Spark, Mitsubishi Lancer, Dodge Dart, Chrysler 200/Dodge Avenger, Ford Taurus, Lexus IS, Lincoln MKS, BMW 7-Series, Honda Crosstour, Jeep Compass/Patriot, Jeep Cherokee with the 2.4-litre engine, Mitsubishi Outlander, Ford Edge, Nissan Armada, Dodge Journey, Volvo, XC90, Lincoln MKX, and Range Rover Evoque.

Now the first takeaway from this list, for me at least, is the shock that some of these vehicles are still being sold. I mean, Nissan Armada, who knew? The next thing is a bit of indignation over a number of these choices. The Chevy Spark after all is the ONLY small  car to get respectable results in the most recent IIHS crash tests, and the Ford Edge is still a pretty competent car despite its impending update.
