We all have dreams. They can be dreams, small dreams, those that are possible, and even those that aren’t. Robbie Maddison, the freestyle motorcross star, stuntman, and James Bond bike rider, has dreams as well. His dream is a bit… different, than yours.
Maddison has been dreaming of a way to ride his dirt bike in the water. Get a jet ski, you say? No, that’s too easy and doesn’t accomplish the goal of Maddo’s dream. He really wants to ride his dirt bike in the water and take the damn thing surfing.
Guess what… he did it.
He fucking did it.
Yes, this is impressive and pretty much insane.
It’s also dirty, noisy, and against pretty much the entire ethos of surfing. Seriously, a 2-stroke bike smokescreening one of the most legit (known) waves in the world? I’m surprised nobody dropped in on him and watched him sink after he had to avoid a colision. If it weren’t for the big-time sponsorship, this guy would not have gotten out of the water without a serious beating.
Nah, I think he gets a pass because it was a freakishly difficult one-time stunt. It’s not as though there will now be umpteen squids doing it next weekend.
I doubt whether most cephalopods will have even seen the video by then, much less dragged a dirt bike offshore for modification.
I’d bet heavily that every surfer in that lineup knew exactly what they were about to watch. He absolutely didn’t just dive bomb the wave
Hey Man!! How you doing? Is that youngster a full fledged Hoon yet? The short time I spent with you two at the Daytona International Speedway is a time I will remember and treasure always. Glad to see you are still here in the Hooniverse. Hope all is well in the Jax area. And just to let you know, this olelongrooffan is proud you still wear that screen name. I Am Honored.
Longroof, all is well in hoonville. We’ve been to see a handful of events in Daytona and my son still asks if we know somebody who can get us “inside.” Watching the pit stops up close isn’t something he’ll soon forget. Thanks again for the tour, give a shout if you’re headed up to the raceway anytime soon.
Wow, is this ever blowing up the Interwebs. In the past day or so, four motorcycle sites posted this, plus three friends (two of them not even riders) and one group feed on FB.
Like so much the DC crew produces (some block-guy?), this straddles the line between awesome and stupid perfectly.
This still hurts the 80% of my brain dedicated to engineering an optimal solution. Just…but…no…why…?
Just think of it as the Tuesday answer to a paddle steamer…
Reminds me of the Top Gear episode where they drive a jeep across a lake. Impressive.
