Welcome to Craigslist Crapshoot, our weekly search for the most bizarre, awesome, and/or terrible vehicles that the online classifieds has to offer.
Many race drivers got their start driving Go Karts while at a tender age. Back when I was a tender age, a Go Kart was a couple of tubes upon which there was plopped a seat and a Briggs & Stratton lawn mower engine. Usually you also got a centrifugal clutch and maybe an external friction brake on the drive axle. Boy have times changed. The Karts of today rival the cars of yesteryear in complexity and performance. You found a buttload of rides the keep your butt mere inches off the macadam and we’ll see the most Kartalicious in a sec, but first this week’s challenge.
A couple of weeks ago we acknowledged the arrival of spring with a search for cheap seat convertibles, and of course last week we went even further au naturel with Go Karts. This week it doesn’t matter if the contender is open or closed, just as long as it can carry a surfboard. That’s right, this week I want you to find for us the coolest rides a surfer might call home. And of course as surfers and their beach bunnies are typically catching waves instead of bringing home the bacon, these will have to be cheap. I’m setting a limit of $2,000 American as that’s a likely amount that a surfer might have by cashing in his bonds that his grandma gave him for his 10th birthday. Cowabunga, man.
As always, we want your finds to go down in infamy and not in the site’s spam filter. Follow any of the following advice and you’re crap will be known far and wide.
- Easiest way to not get caught in the spam filters is to create an IntenseDebate account. If you do so and your posts aren’t appearing, let us know at tips@hooniverse.info and we can put you on the whitelist
- If you don’t want an IDC account, you can create a wordpress.com account and do the same thing.
- If you’re the Ted Kaczynski type and don’t want any kind of account, then try to place only a single link in a comment and just drop any outgoing link in via its raw URL and not as a text link
