Carroll Shelby accomplished quite a bit over the course of his long career. He won Le Mans as a driver, team owner, and manufacturer. His name adorns what remain some of the coolest vehicles ever built. He founded a charity to cover the medical bills for children whose families couldn’t afford them. And he even founded a Chili cookoff in Terlingua, Texas. He lived a hell of a life, but he’s been gone now for over a decade.
If you want to hear a bit more about his life, though, I found an hour-long interview in which he sits down and talks about some key moments in his time on this planet. In it, he talks a lot about his time racing both behind the wheel and as a team owner. He also talks about his admiration and respect for Lee Iacocca and Ray Geddes.
It’s a long listen… but a good one, all the same.
