I can feel folks getting ready to hit the keys to type my messages, telling me I’m wrong. But I don’t care because I’m here to tell you that the C8 Corvette Z06 is a supercar. It has evolved. It is more than. The idea that this is “just” a sports car is now incorrect. Chevrolet is allowed to make a supercar, and that’s what the automaker has done here with the Z06.
Let’s look at the specs. This is a mid-engined machine with a 5.5-liter naturally aspirated flat-plane crank V8 bolted in place. It revs to the moon and sounds absolutely wicked the entire time. In terms of thrust, we’re dealing with 670 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The gearbox clicks off and shifts quickly and cleanly. And this beast of a car will rip off 0-60 mph runs in the mid-two-second range.
It sounds the business. Goes like hell. And looks pretty awesome, on top of that. If you want to argue that it’s still “just” a sports car (incorrectly, mind you), then it’s a sports car that is capable of making supercars look foolish.
As tested, this one is about $140k. That’s a lot of dough, to be sure, but the vehicle that you’re getting at this price point is basically unbeatable if you’re the sort that wants to go as fast as possible. And to sound amazing when doing so.
The wildest part of all this? Chevy is cooking up an even more wicked C8 in the soon-to-be-revealed ZR1.
