We love a gorgeously shot, perfectly recorded HD video as much as anyone, but there’s just so much honesty in this slow-cut, grainy, fuzzy ride-around in the lead-up to the ’69 24 Hours of LeMans. Our favorites are the commentary about the new safety on the Mulsanne straight, while off to the left are trees with hale bales in front of them and the mention that on Mulsanne “in every car but the Porsche 917, you’re flat out”. Nice to know it was overpowered for a multi-mile straightaway.
Via The Chicane, whose chicanery you ought to be following, if you’re not already.

Nice lap. But that comment about safety barriers at all the danger point – I think most of today's drivers would wet themselves if they had to drive by trees with just a little padding around them.

Sorry. Didn't mean to double post. Feel free to remove…
240 mph on the Mulsanne! -
They had me at Lost Tracks…
Mulsanne with no chicanes? Road Atlanta with no chicane.
Someone may need to pick me up off the floor.

If you haven't discovered The Chicane yet, I highly recommend it. They are one of the few places I regularly check from my Google Reader RSS aggregation tool.

Easily my favorite vintage racetrack vid. It's got the Ring, Stewart, that friggin amazing accent and a classy ole' Rolls. "The faster you drive arounf the ring the less you know, and maybe that's the best thing to do."

Actually upon watching I remember that I've been meaning to try that trick with the carousel next time I run the ring on GT4.
