LeMans, GT40, 1969: Enough Said

By Tim Odell Jan 27, 2011

We love a gorgeously shot, perfectly recorded HD video as much as anyone, but there’s just so much honesty in this slow-cut, grainy, fuzzy ride-around in the lead-up to the ’69 24 Hours of LeMans. Our favorites are the commentary about the new safety on the Mulsanne straight, while off to the left are trees with hale bales in front of them and the mention that on Mulsanne “in every car but the Porsche 917, you’re flat out”. Nice to know it was overpowered for a multi-mile straightaway.
Via The Chicane, whose chicanery you ought to be following, if you’re not already.

  1. Nice lap. But that comment about safety barriers at all the danger point – I think most of today's drivers would wet themselves if they had to drive by trees with just a little padding around them.

  2. If you haven't discovered The Chicane yet, I highly recommend it. They are one of the few places I regularly check from my Google Reader RSS aggregation tool.
