Hooniverse Weekend Edition: Billetproof Michigan 2010 Images!

By Jim Brennan May 16, 2010
The Lone AMC. Mikes own 1963 Rambler American!

These shots are courtesy of long time Hoon Mike The Dog. You have to make the jump to see more!

When was the last time you saw a Studebaker Bus?

Here at Hooniverse Central we are blessed with such a diverse pool of talent from the contributors, as well as the commentariant. Mike has a great photostream on flickr that we can’t seem to get enough of. So when we received an e-mail from The Dog informing us that he just uploaded 832 images that he shot at Billetproof Michigan, well we knew that we had to showcase them. However, at Mad_Science request, we decided to let Mike pick out a five of his favorites to spotlight this weekend. Mike’s response was this:

Well, since I would be utterly unable to restrict my enthusiasm to just five cars, I’ll let you be the judge and do as you see fit. I would, however, recommend that you feature the Blower Bentley somewhat prominently, and maybe give an honorable mention to the lone AMC product in the show (a ’63 Rambler that I *know* I’ve seen somewhere before;). Other standouts (for me) were the two ’58 Mercury sedans, the Packard with the flathead straight eight and the two(!) Hupmobile rat rods (Two Hupmobiles and only one AMC? WTF?). Oh, and then there’s the Studebaker bus, the ’55 Chevy George Barris custom (see what I mean?)….

A Truly Bad Ass Packard!

Since I used a couple of his suggestions sprinkled about within this posting, here are a few others:

Here is that Bentley Mike told us about.

The interior of one of those 1958 Mercury Sedans. Makes you want to own one, right?

The Hupmobile Rat Rod Pickup!

This is an Auburn Hearse. OK Mike, if you say so!

This will no doubt kill your entire day, so be prepared to get absolutely nothing done as you view each of the 832 images that Mike shot. Enjoy!

  1. W00t! Thanks for the props, UDMan! And also thanks to the Hooniversal powers that be for making the comment system work without Java, so I can comment on my phone.

    1. Yeah…no prob. There was a recent update to Intense Debate, so it was probably that (b/c we didn't change anything)

  2. This series is bringing a tear to my eye! Awesome stuff! I especially love how so many of these cars aren't show queens. Some of them look like they've had hard lives. I love it!

  3. Many thanks to MtD for the great pics. I buzzed through Ypsi yesterday but didn't have nearly enough time to spend at this awesome event. Don't forget, the Orphan Car Show coming up in three weeks at the same location. Corvairs are this year's feature but another 300+ head-scratching cars are sure to entertain.

    1. I'll have both of my AMCs there, and will take my usual metric ton of pics, too. I can't wait to see which of your collection you grace us with this year!

  4. Mike, that '58 Merc wasn't a Turnpike Cruiser, was it? Supposedly they have functional vents at the upper front corners of the roof. I'd like to see some pics of those, from the inside and outside of the car.

    1. Apparently, the sun had cooked my brains, because I just realized that one of them is actually a '57 Monterey. The '58 didn't have any model name badging that I noticed, and I didn't get any pics of the area that might contain such vents. If I ever come across an early Turnpike Cruiser, I'll take pains to check that out for you.
      UPDATE: Apparently you are correct.

  5. Let this be a message to any of you: get out there and take some pictures and send them in.
We'll make you semi-famous for the ~12 hours the post is on the front page.

  6. Looking through the whole set (which is awesome btw), there are a lot more clean, kinda car show regulars in there than I'd expect for Billetproof. Stuff like this. Not really a bad thing, just not what I'm used to.

  7. Nice job, Mike the Dog!
I wanted to go, but other duties called. I spent the morning helping serve breakfast at an outreach to Arab-Americans then grilling with some friends. Sunday was spent installing a toilet and the faucet in the upstairs bathroom. Project House Hell comes one step closer to completion!
Tomorrow night is the first monthly car show of the year at my church. I plan on grabbing the point-n-shoot and the dog and walking up there. Should be fun for the whole family!

  8. Man great pics…especially loved the Damaged Goods truckster with the big wheels that was there down by that rat wrecker. that thing was CRAZY!!! GREAT PICS…
