You may have remembered our two part Hooniverse 101 on drum brake renewal, but have you ever wondered how a company like Chevrolet engineered those things in the first place? This edu-ma-tainment film comes from 1934 and explains how Chevy’s engineers designed their mechanical drum brakes (Chevy wouldn’t adopt hydraulics for another 2 years) for maximum effectiveness and minimum catching on fire. It’s quaint and amusing (check out the guy waving over the roof at :17) and is an amazing promotion of a technology that’s long since been made obsolete. Stop and check it out, right after the jump.
