I’m sure you’ve heard of electric blues impresario Chester Arthur Burnett. No? Well then perhaps you know him by his stage name – Howlin’ Wolf? Still nothing? Okay, how about the songs Killing Floor, How Many More Times, and Back Door Man? There we go, now it’s all coming into focus. While you may know those songs from such successors as Led Zeppelin and the Doors, they were originally made famous by the legendary bluesman, Howlin’ Wolf.
Keeping that cover vibe going is this video of Highway 49 Blues, which was originally written and sung by another blues legend, Big Joe Williams, and most famously covered by Howlin’ Wolf. Here it is capably performed by the Junkyard Preachers and backed up by a fan-generated slide show full of iconic highway imagery. Hit the road right after the jump.
