Classic Captions – The 1966 Chevrolet Corvair Convertible Edition

Tanshomi Images-001 Welcome to the Hooniverse Classic Captions Post, and once again, it’s that time of the week in which this feature appears, so let’s review the premise; I search for images that were used by the car companies in their print advertising or brochures, and it is your job to provide a humorous caption that is some how tied in with the image. I have to thank the readers who have responded over the past couple of weeks, so I guess I’ll continue this feature with interesting images that I find all over, like this one from 1966, but we will get to that in a moment… advertising images2-004 Last time, we had an image of a Hertz Rent-A-Car next to a Boeing 727, and it was the first time I used an image this large, so it looks like more pictures in this size format will become a part of this series in the future. All of the entries were great, and some were extremely funny. The runner-up comment was from smalleyxb122 (yes, again!), who was thinking what we secretly were all thinking: “Don’t land on the shifter. Don’t land on the shifter. Don’t land on the shifter.” Very funny smalleyxb122, but there was one comment that received a little more love from the readers this time. And the winning comment was from GTXcellent, and it tied in one of the most notorious stunts ever executed from a plane (A 727 no less…): “D. B. Cooper’s first attempt needed quite a bit of refinement.” This was excellent (taking aim squarely at your screen name), so well done GTXcellent on winning the classic caption contest this time. It’s now time to take a look at this weeks entry, and this was an image that was emailed to me a long time ago from fan of the Hooniverse, Tanshanomi. So, I had to do a bit of research to find where he may have taken it from, and decided to make the width much larger to really bring out the detail… Only one detail was rather alarming, and I hope you guys (It will only be the guys, by the way…) don’t really make an issue of it… so here goes. The image itself raises a lot of questions, like what is the relationship between the (Much) Older Man and the Young, Vibrant Woman? One of the magazines or circulars on the engine cover is titled Guadalajara, while the magazine the girl is holding has models in swimwear. The man, looking a little exasperated, is holding a map or airline tickets. So where do you think they’re off to, and what is their relationship status anyway? So many questions, so little time, so lets keep it civil and see who comes out on top. (You can click here to see the full size image) You have the next five days to come up with a great caption. The editors will deliberate on the merits of each entry, and after contemplating our own caption (I’m not going anywhere near what I am currently thinking…), we will pronounce a winner. So, get to work and create you’re own caption for this rather unusual image. Photo Credit: Perry A Hub Pages
