And the REAL winner is…

By Hooniverse Nov 21, 2010

Unfortunately, the Gremlin did not win its own trophy

Sure, it’s easy to run a bunch of laps in a BMW E30.  That’s boring, though!  Anyone can do that!
What we really want to know is the winner of the Index of Effluency Award.  This award is given to a car that you expect to run a few slow laps and “call it a day” (or explode monumentally) but that actually performs well the whole weekend.  This is the award that matters.
And this time, the coveted Index of Effluency goes to…
…the Property Devaluation Ford Fairmont Wagon!

This was far from the wagon’s first LeMons run, but they learned so much from all the problems they had during their first half dozen runs or so that they were able to keep the wagon on the track consistently, all the way to the end.
I’ll try to put up a gallery sometime in the next couple days.  Until then, rock on, hoons!

  1. Sweet wagon. With extra wagonicity. The only thing cooler than a Fairmont wagon is a Fairmont _Futura_!

    1. And this wagon had a "Futura" badge on the fender! It had an ///M badge right above it, too, so I guess a grain of salt is in order.

  2. Is that the cone of shame on the roof? And they still won?
Having been a prior owner of a Fairmont, I can personally assure everyone that they are indeed craptastic. It's the one car I've owned where if I had it to do all over again, I wouldn't.

  3. Wow, I should be extra happy with the way this race ended. IoE is a Fox four door, and outright win is an E30, both of which I own and love.
But man, the E30 is a laaame attempt at a LeMons car. We arguably spent more time on the appearance of our car as the mechanicals.

  4. So Cal teams looking for a cheap way to possibly get accepted to a LeMons race might consider this $100 Triumph TR7. It needs an engine and transmission, but that essentially how they came from England. I think you can put a Buick V6 in them, but it might be more fun to find a minipickup drivetrain with a manual transmission.

  5. I know a 3800 fits in 'em. I'd personally put in a 4.0 from a Ford/Mazda small pickup, transmission and everything.
