And the winner is…

    1. Haha. Sober for this one. Simply the product of the second most frustrating Internet connection I've ever had the displeasure of using.

  1. An E30 you say? I do not believe it. Next you'll be saying some Honda's blew head gaskets and an Italian car caught fire.

  2. This calls for competitive adjustments! Apply a fractional multiplier to allowable cost for cars that have proven to be overdogs. For example, E30s could be given a .7 multiplier, meaning that the team could only spend 350 dollars on preparing the car. Expensive-but-horrendously-unreliable makes, like many an Italian car, might get multipliers greater than 1, to bring a greater number of exotic crapheaps into contention.
Eight-wheeled rotary-powered homebuilt monstrosities get a multiplier of 8, of course.

  3. Believe it or not, there wasn't one Miata on the entire field!
For good reason, I'd say—last year's Crapheaps saw a Miata flee the People's Curse.

  4. I get the E30 hate. But in my defense, I started building my E30 team in '07. The race before I entered had four E30s in it. And not only does our car have the stock eta motor, but we have spent just as much time making our car/theme ridiculous as we have on the mechanicals.

  5. Well unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?), the reason it survived the last Altamont race is because our clutch and flywheel blew up about 2 hours into the race and we couldn't get it fixed at the track. Even so, I got punted into the tire barrier there and the car suffered a few battle scars from it.
