Starting out with the Sunday Edition of the Hooniverse Weekend, and what do i spot over on eBay? Yes, another 1961 Plymouth. This time instead of a Fury Sedan, it is a Custom Suburban Wagon. A lot of our fans on Hooniverse really didn’t get the Sedan from a week ago, but many of our fans are rabid when it comes to Station Wagons… Drink in all the details of this Custom Suburban Wagon, and tell me you wouldn’t want this…
According to the listing:
1961 Plymouth Custom Suburban Wagon. If you require only the very best examples in your collection, this remarkable wagon may be for you. Ice Cold Vintage Air Conditioning. Gorgeous Factory two tone colors, Alpine White/Emerald combination paint scheme. A Virgil Exner Masterpiece from Chryslers Out of this World Design Studio. Completely Rust Free San Jose California Automobile. Original Big V8 Motor. Restored Push Button Torqueflite Automatic Transmission. Restored Front End.
All the very best for a carefree comfortable safe driving experience: New Tinted Windshield, Beautiful glass all around, New Dual Exhaust system, New American Wide Whitewall Radial Tires, for fantastic road handling. Updated and much improved Brake system which includes a dual master cylinder for excellent safe confident driving and stopping. Extraordinarily rare with no rust ever. The complete Undercarriage, Floors etc. are like new and completely original. The Amazing Sci-Fi Front End Design with its very distinctively shaped metal grille is really magnificent.
Exner’s Neo Classical Freestanding Tail Lamp Design of two Chrome Flashlight Rockets is very unusual and visually striking as well. A Correct car, completely stock and vintage original with only upgraded driving safety improvements, all of its factory original integrity intact. Every road tester of the time agreed that the Plymouth easily out handled the top of the line Chevy Impala and Ford Galaxie in all ways.
This car is said to have only 19,000 miles on the odometer, and the car looks very good for its age. This is not a top-of-the-line model, and that may be a bit of a blessing because Chrysler used to trowel the surface with extra brite-work and trim that I don’t think this wagon needs. As a contrast, see my posting for this over the top Dodge Wagon from the same time period. Anyway, the starting bid for this unique Plymouth is $27,500! Do not care much for the price, but that is some cool old retro cruiser. Some out there styling compared to the "they all pretty much look alike " cars of today.
I used to think of them as just ugly, but it's grown on me – now it's funky. The ad says "Original Big V8 Motor", so I assumed it was a 361 or 383, but it looks like it's the base 318 two-barrel. I'd pull off the blue dot taillights, and put on full wheelcovers and true wide whites (it is a '61, and wide whites were still in).
Every time he sits behind the wheel of his '61 Plymouth, Johnny Five pines for his father.

The pictures in the brochure only show the square steering wheels, so it appears this one has manual steering.
That is the meanest face I have ever seen on a car. Very cool.
Three days left and no bids??? What's this world coming too?
Its senses.
The starting price is much too high. People seem to forget, or not understand, eBay is an auctioning service. Auctions don't work when you start at the lowest acceptable price.
So that's where Lexus got its inspiration for its new grilles.
