Continuing on with our July 4th Holiday Weekend Edition, where I highlight Big Old American Cars in celebration of Independence Day. And look what I found… this is a first year Lincoln Mark IV from 1972, which went on to be even more successful than the Mark III Personal Luxury Coupe. This has the classic Long Hood, Short Deck look so prevelant in Ford Coupes during this time period, and it incorporated the fake tire hump rather well in the overall design. But, would you want to own one of these large leviathans? The 1972 Mark IV was the successor to the Mark III, and grew longer and wider for the occasion. This was also the year in which Lincoln introduced a styling hallmark, the oval “Opera Window” that would go on to be part of almost every Lincoln until 1984. This particular Mark Iv is finished in Triple White, meaning that the Body Color, Vinyl Roof Treatment, as well as the interior color were all white, which is very unusual to see today. This is a very long and heavy car, weighing close to 5,400 pounds, but curiously, the interior is rather snug for such a big vehicle. Ford managed to sell almost 48,600 of these cars for the 1972 model year, and for the next 5 years, the numbers sold actually increased (except for 1975). Asking price for this white Lincoln is $12,000, which is a lot considering the car originally sold for $8,600. See the listing here, and tell me what you think about this Mark IV.
