Mechanically this vehicle is in excellent condition. The engine was replaced during the RV conversion with a new GM 400 engine. Mileage on the new engine is about 55,000. Recent oil change and tune up, new water pump, new heater core, new heater control valve, new hoses, new belts, new battery, new tires. Has power steering and power disk brakes in front and power drum brakes in the rear. Starts, runs and drives great. Has been repainted in the classic taxi cab yellow. All appropriate decals and striping were added.

With a little over a day to go, the top bid so far is $6,202, with an unmet reserve. The Buy-it-Now price is $11,950, which I think is just a bit pricey, but what do you think? See the listing here [sc:ebay itemid=”271239830667″ linktext=”1965 Checker Marathon Taxi Cab Custom Camper Conversion” ] and tell me if you like this Checker.

a hooker could run multiple enterprises with a set up like this…

If you think that's a lot for a NYC taxicab, try renting a NYC apartment of the same size for a month.
    (Also, nice rims.)

It uses a cab for the cab. The rest is cabin.
You might be able to afford the camper, but not the fare on the meter.
"Does not have a bathroom". I suppose the owner hasn't been inside many authentic NYC cabs. Lack of dedicated facilities does not necessarily deter people.

Waste of a perfectly good Checker.

How do we know it was a perfectly good Checker when the conversion was done. The body was more than 10 years old at the time so it could have had a million miles on it at that point. Since this is just the front half of a Checker body it is also possible that it had been rear ended, had possible frame damage ect and was on it's way to the crusher before some one saved the front half for this project.

2 different V.I.N. tags may make it difficult to register …Looks like a Chev Van or Truck chassis ? Ive never seen 8-lug Checkers

Easy enough to unscrew the VIN tag from the truck that donated its chassis to this project to keep the DMV from getting suspicious. It definitely was created from a GM truck chassis, almost certainly a pickup by the 10,0000 GVW on the one tag, which would mean that it was a C30. That would be the way to do it, while the Checker chassis is pretty stout by car standards the brakes just wouldn't be up to the task of all the added weight.

I would have used a longer truck as the basis so that it could have a bathroom. A 50 gal water tank seems a bit of overkill if all you have is the kitchen sink. Definitely too pricey at the BIN price, even the $6200 is more than I would pay.

I would rather have a 1965 Checker. This is very interesting but the lack of a bathroom means it has limited use as a "camper."
