If you happen to be in the Los Angeles area this Sunday the 14th, you might want to stop by the confluence of the 101 and 405 freeways where Woodley Park will be hosting the annual oiling of the grass, or as it’s better known, the Queen’s English All-British Car Meet and Jumble. The event runs between 9AM and 4PM, but spectator parking is somewhat limited, so you may want to get there early.
If you like your fish served in yesterday’s newspaper, or the exciting mystery of whether you’ll make it home or not, then British cars are right up your alley. Participating will be a riot of Rovers, a multitude of MG, an avalanche of Austins, and lots of Loti. Food and facilities will be available, and the Jumble (or swap meet) may be the opportunity to find that missing leaf spring gaiter or key fob you’ve been desperately seeking.
The participant entry form may be found here, and the event is free to spectators. Map and directions are here.
If you aren’t planning to be in LA this weekend (come on, this show is reason enough!) don’t worry, as always following such an event of global importance a mega-super-big gallery will be posted next week for all your Lucas-joking enjoyment.
Trees and grass aside, what is that funky green thing back in the back?

1957 Lotus XI–a tribute, according to the Flickr page where I found it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dmentd1/7159902705/
Pretty sure its an NSX, dude.
It's funny that you put Lotus cars in that photo, because according to my Hemmings calendar, Lotus "built" (introduced?) its first single-seat race car on this date in 1957.
Loti?<img src="http://tinyurl.com/9cfz46d" width="1" height="1" />
Perhaps. It depends on whether the name, in Latin, refers to the plant or to the act of washing (as an abstract noun, not as a participle). If the latter, the plural is Lotus, but that construction is only supported in a single instance by Aulus Cornelius Celsus and may very well by a copyist error.
Yeah, probably Loti.
I'd rather be a king for a day…

And now I have the Thompson Twins stuck in my head.
………..Aaaand this is a bad thing?
Mission…accomplished!
😉
Amazingly lucky that they all broke down in the shelter of trees. : )
I just clicked on the link to the map, and looked at the rest of Woodley Park. Someone obviously has a sense of humor: Wright cricket field is across the road from Wong cricket field? That's so wong, but funny too…
