Team Trailing Throttle Oversteer is looking for Members; Are you crazy enough to join?

By Jim Brennan Mar 30, 2010

It’s that time of year, and I have to start looking for team members for the upcoming LeMons New England race. Want to come aboard?

Last year I had an all star cast for my team. I had Mike “Mr. Angry” Musto (Who now writes for Ride Lust) as one of the cornerstones of the team, along with Katherine Helmatag from CarDomain who is one of the most knowledgeable VW enthusiast on the planet. Mike brought along a few of his friends as drivers, along with mechanic extraordinaire Johnny Sigismondi. There was also Andy Sarkoski, a Corvair fanatic, and the owner of a radical 455 CID Toronado Powered Corvair that he brought to the race. And of course, I had the famous Mary Comens (Mary with an M from the J) as our go-fer and cheerleader, as well as Jason Ensell as our food expert.

So why am I asking for team members this year? I understand (though not confirmed) that Mike is forming his own team this year, so that will leave me with 3 less drivers and no mechanic! Katherine will also be busy with her own team, and will be roaring back in some sort of VW near her home in Michigan. I am counting on Andy to return, and would love to have Mary back, but that leaves a lot of openings.

So, if you are itchin’ to race a 1963 Corvair, or wrench a Corvair, or participate in a LeMons event, leave a comment below, or write to the tips line, and I am sure to respond. For your viewing pleasure, here is some of the images from last year.

  1. i'd happily volunteer myself for cook duties… i'll have to check my dates with the wife and find out for sure though… hmmmm…

  2. That rear roof section could be bent up to form a nice spoiler.
I'm a little too far away to help out, but if anyone in the Atlanta area is looking for help I would try to find the time.

  3. I am definitely interested in any capacity! I have minimal experience from working on my AMC Eagle and am currently in the process of rebuilding my transmission. In fact I just bought another Eagle for $300, it could make a great AWD LeMons racer if you dropped in a stroked 4.0L picked up on the cheapy cheaps, but I want to get that driveable too.

    1. I will, in some capacity. Seems like there's quite a bit of Kansas Hoons on here, besides us there's Alff, Alfisted, Jeepy Jayhawk, and Thrashy.
      Summer Hoonmeet?

  4. From the outside, that car looks like it handles a little weird. But I've heard it's a lot like a Nissan GTR when you're in the driver's seat.

  5. If Team Robocop doesn't take off (or until I can find a first-gen Taurus SHO and a big-ass can of Krylon), then I'm down. You won't even need to get me another shirt!

  6. If I even lived in the same time zone I would be all over this offer. Race a Corvair with UDMan? Hell, yeah. Sounds like a blast. Hell, I can wrench like a maniac, I'd do that, I'd flip the burgers, too. I'd love to be in on this.

  7. UDMan, I'd love the chance to work as gopher, if Mary can't make it. Can't claim much else, although I do know my way around a garage. You certainly don't want me cooking! I've been looking for a team myself, but bringing only enthusiasm to the party doesn't get you very far.

  8. Regards for this write-up, I definitely will attach this website to my personal rss feeds, a buddy basically informed me regarding this the other day. this may be the greatest
