If LeMans taught us anything it’s that we’ll never be as cool as Steve McQueen a racing program needs more than one car to be truly successful. If LeMons has taught us anything, it’s that spare parts are your friend. You can see where we’re going with this, right?

This Craigslist ad is particularly painful to the LA Hooniverse crew as these e12 528s share a chassis and most of their mechanical bits with Der UberBird. The blue(ish) car is $200 and seems like it’s one or two good weekends away from being a runner. The brown(ish) one already runs, and costs $500.
Buying both gets you a $100 savings and the opportunity to claim that you paid $300 for each, leaving $200 for upgrades or (more likely) a big pile of spare guibos.

  1. You would probably end up with the same problem that always seem to pop up with trying to use a non-runner as a parts car to make a runner. The same parts would be bad on both. The best parts cars are wrecked ones, preferably with a good smack to the rear end or passenger's side. That way you know most stuff was working until the time of impact. Unless of course you are just looking for body panels.

    1. Given the parts, I could get both of these running over a weekend.
Older BMWs are shockingly easy to work on.

      1. Yeah, but could you do it with only the parts here? I owned an E30 and I was surprised at how easy it was to work on, except for the crazy electrical system. I'm convinced that Bosch and Lucas are half-brothers or at least close cousins. My car had a mysterious battery drain, would drain the battery in 2-3 hours, I finally installed a battery shut-off switch. Also, if you didn't turn off the windshield wipers they would come back on after some random interval, with the car turned off, key out of the ignition! My car had an after-market stereo installed before I got it so that might have been the source of some gremlins.
