On this date 45 years ago Ted Kennedy drove his Olds into a pond were it submerged. He was able to escape, but his passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne did not and drowned. This tragic event made Chappaquiddick a political meme, and more importantly, gave birth to this classic parody VW ad by National Lampoon.
