Last Call: Just a Peek Edition

It’s a testament to the designer when just a sliver of a car can elicit a visceral gasp from those who see it. The Ferrari 250GT Berlinetta SWB is just such a car, one that doesn’t have a misplaced line or extraneous detail. And, that’s why it’s taking us into the weekend. Buckle up, everybody!
Last Call indicates the end of Hooniverse’s broadcast day.  It’s meant to be an open forum for anyone and anything. Thread jacking is not only accepted, it’s encouraged.

A “Roller” in a roller skate ad.. hah! I’d take the brown skates and either one of those fucking awesome pants in the second ad. *thinking of something non-douchey to say about taking the girls for a ride in the Roller*

Nice tire pattern. There’s probably better functioning tread around today, but few that look as classy on a vintage car.

Awfully quiet over here. Ever since IntenseDebate went tits up and Huuniverse not having a “latest comments” or whatever it was called is making commenting a lot less interesting since you can’t see where people are actually commenting..

All the latest comments from the people you’re following will show up there.
It was the first thing I had to figure out, too.

Thanks. I should probably follow some people then.. Not particularly good on that front, what with me keeping deleting my accounts. My disqus is private so i don’t think anyone can even follow me either. Still not as good as having all the latests commentses on the front page.
Anyway here’s a song about guys in vans with vanilla Wunderbaums having difficulties comprehending the fact that beautiful women have to go #2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CN-eMrBlj2M

Odd car paint effects: Drove right behind a Mazda CX-3 just now, and tunnel lights were reflected in such a way that they looked like a reverse MS startravel screensaver. Dots of light appeared to be racing towards the Mazda badge, disappearing into infinity. Also, a Mazda Demio drove right in front of the CX-3 – showing how there’s lightyears between the two design philosophies…

Is there new content on AT?
(Since my laptop was replaced it has not been liking IntenseDebate so I have lost track of recent comments. Then when I load up AT it still shows ‘Stone Age Thinking’ as the most recent article posted. Am I missing something?)

Not that I can tell. But someone has been commenting the hell out of the last article.

i know i say this every time any form of 250GT is posted, but i think it’s a hugely overrated car. and the E-Type.

i’ve been driving around in a rented Dodge Dart.
let me tell you some things about it.
the steering is vague and drifty, the car bangs around over bumps, the dashboard squeaks, there are nasty vibrations through the steering wheel, and the engine, from outside, sounds like garbage. the horn feels like it operates a fraction of a second behind the button, and the radio control buttons behind the steering wheel make no sense. the car has a two-liter engine, but it doesn’t feel as quick or responsive as the 2.0 in the Focus. these are complaints i have from just two days of driving this car.
even more troublingly, the car stalled on me once and the oil-pressure lamp flickers on coming around corners. the last oil change, according to the window sticker, was just 6,000 or so miles ago. 20,000 miles is hard on a rental car, but this is ridiculous. my mom bought her Sentra – not a car i have a high opinion of, mind you – after a similar number of rental-car miles, and at 75k now it’s doing much better than this Dart at 20k.
about the only kind words i have are for the styling. it looks good on the outside, no qualifications. the low fascia and high tail, with the LED tail light strip, that’s a good-looking car. the interior styling is far superior to that of my Fiesta – the mesh seats look sporty, the dashboard is low, and the dash layout is intuitive and unobtrusive without being boring.
so it’s got that going for it. but that’s about it. if this is how FCA cars are built, maybe i dodged a bullet by skipping the 500 Abarth.

So, last week I made a huge increase in my car’s roadholding and aerodynamic capability. It really felt planted to the road afterwards.

Doesn’t that wing unload the front wheels at speed?

      1. Van_Sarockin Avatar
        Van_Sarockin

It simply compensates for the tendency of torque to rotate the chassis up off the rear wheels during brisk acceleration.

        CSE. Aero would be sweet.
To be fair, the new wing does reduce desirability of the moon roof a tad.

New Top Gear minus the three idiots was on last night, instead they have a ginger idiot, an american idiot who used to be in some obscure sitcom about a group of friends (never heard of it) and a shouty German woman who was capable of making even a fighter co-pilot throw up. Internet is going mental, yet TG is as patchy, uneven, beautifully produced and totally contrived as its always been, so business as usual. Calm down internet, it’s OK, there’s good stuff on yootoob

She got incredibly little screen time disappointingly almost a guest in a feature and not in the studio, the core presenters seem to be Chris Evans (making the mistake of trying to be Clarkson rather than himself, but give him time to find his feet) and Matt LeBlanc who seemed to be a lot more comfortable and charismatic. Also, Chris Harris didn’t make an appearance seems to have been exiled with Rory Reid to spin off show called “Extra Gear” only available on iPlayer (BBC do this a lot, spin extra content or extended versions of their popular shows), which I’ve not seen yet but has apparently been recieved positively. Potentially this could mean we have three shows spun out of the original now, the downside is that none of them are easily accessible at broadcast globally, even legitimitaly. You can’t even pay a subscription to iPlayer outside the UK now thanks to BBC America licensing issues (I can watch BBC TV on Freesat though), and Amazon Prime video isn’t available in Ireland despite a huge proportion of their data centres being on our soil, go figure.
