Ever seen a tire valve explode? That happened on our Camry sunday, right after we came home from a long ride. According to the tire shop, that was due to a combination of rubber fatigue (we’ve all been there) and sunshine…scary.

Now, the rare-for-Europe Toyota is dressed in fresh Uniroyal RainExpert 3, about the sixth time I’ve bought these summer tires.

Is this a real product? The valve shouldn’t look like that, of course, but I guess that was only the post-apocalypse-look.

I’ve only ever seen them on 911s. Years ago, probably on 911SCs.

          From the You-Can’t-Make-This-Stuff-Up department:
          Valve stem support
          Porsche valve stem support
relieves centrifugal stress on valve stems for high speed driving.
Adhesive pad (included) holds these in place.

Yes, it’s Viagra for your Schrader Valve, and Yes it’s distributed by “Wheel Enhancements” dot com.

It had to be targeting Porsche owners. Yikes.

I’ve never seen them do that. Usually they’re made out of EPDM rubber, which is ozone and UV resistant.

The guy at the tire shop was really surprised, too. My wife was most of all scared. She had driven us home, a bit tired, one hand on the steering wheel. A front tire losing all its air in 1 second wouldn’t have been easy to handle then…
Btw, the Camry drives so much better on the Uniroyal tires! Even she noticed. The cakeness is almost entirely gone. Steering input is processed immediately and the car goes straight when one expects it.
