Whatever your criteria for the decision, if you find a good mechanic, it’s a good idea to stick with them.
A question: what is that green curlicue thing in the foreground?

Last Call: A Good Mechanic is Hard to Find Edition

Looks like a mosquito coil to me.

I can’t seem to find that exact holder, but this one is similar

That makes a lot more sense than my guess of “electric stove burner”, but it was entertaining trying to come up with reasons why one would be there, in a housing like that.

You’ve got that right. I worked in a shop for almost 10 years, took multiple cars there. Learned much of my first hand knowledge of what to do and what not to do to a car there. Overall had mostly good experiences with them, but now I live too far away. I’m glad I found a specialist. They’re actually further away, but being a specialist makes it more worthy of the trip than a chain would be.
-
The relationship I have with my mechanic is directly influencing which car I will be purchasing next. That’s also making the process more difficult as I keep finding more options to consider that his shop doesn’t specialize in wrenching on.
-
Ah, the nearly mythical H-D Exhaust Pipe Thief! Not very often are they caught on film. Until recently their existence was only inferred from the number of Harleys roaming the country with no exhaust system in evidence.
Also, a good Shovelhead may not be as hard to find as a good mechanic, but nonetheless you should hold on to it if you find one. -
She’s wearing a pilot skirt.
-
What are the strings hanging off the sides for? (Besides being totes adorbs)
-
Emergency skirt removal tassels.

Torn between “be still my (married) heart,” and “that’s definitely not suitable riding gear, and questionable wrenching gear depending on the task at hand.”

You guys have seen this, right?

She’s definitely not working on a car.
(Er… well, I guess it could be a sidecar, but it would be an RHD setup.) -
Damnit, hasn’t been updated in 2 months 🙁

Someone in my town has put the front bumper of an Olds Intrigue onto a Pontiac Grand Prix and created something that looks sort of credible in a ’90s way, strong shades of Eagle Vision or the last Mercury Tracer.
I mean, it’s clearly a cobbled together junkyard car, but it works.-
Need a picture!

Workshop question: are there any sub-USD100 oscilloscopes around that are ok for car diagnostics, i.e., rather rugged than fancy, 12V or battery-driven, “fast” enough to see injector pulse signals and crank sensors, 2ch. I stopped following the market, there are fancy touchscreen things from China nowadays…

I see a parts car as a plains buffalo: nothing should be wasted. Though perhaps in this case, it’s a reindeer.
I can quit any time I want to.-
You’re on the right website for this. :- )

Message approved.
I am still making my own parts cars:

It’s almost done now, the front lip spoiler needs to be rebuild after I had to cut it for the pillar. Some bondo and paint will do.-
I’m reading a book on wartime camouflage and deception, so naturally I look at this and think, “there must be something you could draw in with a decoy 245”.

A bunch of hopelessly conservative guys ready to swipe streets with the rear wheels of their wagons?

It looks like you may not yet have encroached upon the living area proper, so you’ve still got plenty of room for more.
-
Well at that point you just have to claim they are home decor.
-
They are home decor. Those are also home decor. As are those. And those….

“Your couch looks a lot like the back seat of a DAF.”
-
“Yes, it does, although this one was produced after the hostile takeover and therefore is technically a… Wait! How do you know that? Where have you seen DAF parts before? Where can I find them? Tell me!”
I don’t get many repeat houseguests. -
IDGADAF.
I don’t get a lot of repeat houseguests either, but that might because of the complete lack of furniture in the first place.

I was actually eyeballing that seat for an office chair conversion.

After moving into a place with more storage, I noted one day that I was no longer sleeping in the same room with a transmission and set of wire wheels.
It seems like you’re almost there! All you need are a few more body panels, an engine, a transmission…
Unless of course you plan on using that washing machne to provide all that. It already has the right color and shape!
Since i am my own mechanic all of my purchasing decisions involve me crawling around the thing deciding how willing i will be to work on it…
I’ve got the best service from the “dealer”, an independent but authorised Ford service that only does service; no car sales. Anyway they are good enough that it might influence my choice of car towards Ford and Mazda.
And yeah, like smaller said, that’s a hyttyskarkoitin.
She should be wearing safety goggles.
