That’s right friends, it is time to experience one of these super auctions first hand. My bags are packed, pre-flight…zero hour is 8am. I am heading to Kissimmee, FL this weekend to see how these events shake down. The folks at Mecum have generously provided me with a press pass, but as an added wrinkle I will be looking at the event through the eye of someone who is looking to buy some classic American iron. Well… not directly.
I have been invited by a father and son duo that I have known since I was in 7th grade. The father is looking to come home with a view vehicles and some memorabilia for his garage. The chance to attend an auction and be pseudo-part of the bidding process is an exciting prospect. I look forward to sharing my stories with you when I return.
Here are a few of the interesting items up for bid this weekend:
This is just a small sample of the awesomeness crossing the auction block this weekend. You can watch the action live this weekend on the Discovery Channel or HD Theather (AKA Fancy-Awesome Discovery).
For more information on the auction, head to the Mecum website.

Car Hauler FTW! I want something like that someday! tasty COE goodness.
I agree. That thing is gorgeous.
Talk about 'room for an engine swap' in that buggy.
I know that those aren't the right tires and wheels for that drag Charger, but I'd love to see it light them up. I'm guessing they'd last maybe ten seconds.
First thing I thought. I would love to mash it and burn those trailer donuts until they weren't there.
once it, y'know, has an engine.
Right. Engines are nice to have for that.
I've seen #22 up there vintage racing at Road Atlanta. I believe that it was running a 360 or so at the time. Road racing winged Mopar!
Dad and I will be watching, just as we did Barrett-Jackson last week.
It is mandatory that I get a chance to attend something like this in my lifetime…
That car hauler is the beeeeeeezzz!
And if I happen to win the power ball lotto in the next few days…I will go and bid on that Superbird…and the whole rest of that garage that it is parked in!!!
That's a nice Überbird clone : )
Color is off though…
That car hauler should pull in a nice bid. Vintage Motorsport has been talking about how the new trend in the vintage racing world is to have a car hauler of similar vintage as the race car. In fact, some races have special parking for period-correct haulers.
I would take the '57 Swallowtop.
I first thought that was the Monkeemobile, but Google (and Wickepedia) has made me see the error of my ways…

Great Memorabilia as well
