Hooniverse Asks- Who Should Jerry Seinfeld Take to Coffee, and What car Should they Take?

You may not find Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee as wonderfully endearing as do I, but then, you probably haven’t seen the show. Not only is this pastiche of the unfathomably rich and powerful celebrity’s passion for both automobiles and the art of comedy a sheer joy to watch, it’s also an amazing opportunity to see both cars and comics that you might otherwise not.

Yesterday’s episode, featuring comedy legend Don Rickles and an amazing 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Seville was perhaps my favorite, and I loved Jerry’s description of the car as the mobile embodiment of Las Vegas. The dude is both wry and perceptive. Part of how he uses this power of perception for good instead of evil is the pairing of car and comedian. That has resulted in a number of both spot-on, and ironic matches.

Considering this element of the show’s modus operandi, are there comedic types that you would like to see feted and sated by a trip to the coffee shop? If so, who are they, and more importantly, what car would be their perfect match for the trip?

    1. Clarkson isn't a comedian though. More appropriate would be Rowan Atkinson and this. (Or an Austin Mini with a padlock on the driver's door.)

      1. Not in the strictest sense of the word, no.. but with his quick wit and rapid-fire responses it would be pretty entertaining. I'd also like to see him cringe in horror as he quickly relives his Reliant Robin episode.. I'm not sure he'd even get in the car..
Rowan Atkinson in an old Mini would be awesome too though

    1. Apparently, going by the trailer for Alpha Papa, Partridge is in a Kia Optima now.
Which is a shame, because I like the Optima a bit.

  1. Steven Wright and a car traveling at the speed of light.
Janeane Garofalo and a Superbird (or any other design which isn't all that attractive the first time you see it, but can be fairly decent from the right angles.)
    Eddie Griffin and an Enzo.
Bob Newhart in a telephone company truck.
Gilbert Gottfried and a car with an obnoxiously loud and droning exhaust system.
    Dana Carvey and a Pacer.

    1. As cool as a McLaren would be, I was thinking an old Jag. You know, like Philip's Jag.

      1. A police-spec Astra would also be acceptable.
There's always that "who is in the back?" problem with a double act. For instance, if it was Mitchell and Webb, I'd suggest a Matra Bagheera or a Fiat Multipla, so everyone's on the same row and in something endearingly nerdy.

        1. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who had that Matchbox. There's actually been 3 generations of Supervan (I always wondered why it was 2 – the original was roughly a GT40 wearing the body of a contemporary Transit), but I'm assuming this product of the 80s would be closest to Pegg and Frost's sensibilities.

  2. Chris Titus
Jeremy Clarkson ( I know not a comedian, but great comic chops and a true gearhead)
    Joe Rogan
    Jay Mohr
