Do you remember the trikes in kindergarten? They had that little step on the back and when you got big enough you’d ride it like a scooter, steering with the handlebars, but resting one foot on the step while pushing off with the other. For me at least, that’s the first memory I have of transitioning from little kid to big kid, and it felt good. Today is Two Wheel Tuesday and while that generally means motorcycles, the truth be told, many of us found a peddled conveyance – whether a trike or bike – to be the source of our first taste of speed. We’ll talk a little more about that later this morning, but for now what I’m interested in is whether you had a cool bike as a kid, or one that you pined after, but could never obtain because sadly, you were a member of the Cratchit family. For me it was a metallic red 10-speed Schwinn with dropped-down handlebars and those secondary brake handles that let you ride both hump-back and upright, depending on your mood. I fitted that bike with an odometer and by the time I switched to a little Honda motorcycle in my mid-teens, I had put over 1,000 miles on it. Do you have a similar memory? What was your favorite bike as a kid? Image: gizmag
