Special editions have been a staple of car makers’ attempts to eke out a few more sales before everyone agrees that a model needs to be put out to pasture. Actually, a few car makers haven’t actually figured that out and Toyota seems determined to release special editions of the Scion xB year after year, despite that car being so long in the tooth it could find a home at the La Brea Tar Pits. Frequently, special editions fete another brand or event. Does anyone remember the Olympic edition Oldsmobiles from back in ’84? How about the Neiman Marcus Lexus? Many of these special editions have been lost to the ages as too few were produced, and the base cars were usually so unremarkable – witness the WB Venture above – that they’ve long since gone to the crusher. Of course, we never forget, and what we’re looking for today are those oddball special editions, the Nautica Mercurys, Fila Thunderbirds, or Pink Floyd editions Volkswagens – yes, they did exist – because you’re the ones that can bring them all back from the dead. What in your opinion, are some of the world’s most obscure special edition cars and trucks? Image source: Conceptcarz
