Hoonivercinema- Nine Minutes of Pure Joy

Sometimes being late can be a good thing. Actually, when it’s an excuse for putting down the pedal and eating up some road in your favorite car it’s about the best thing there is.*

As you all know, I’ve become an adherent to the church of the Z, having recently bought, and being currently in the process of restoring, a 1971 240 edition. As such, I like to check out other peoples’ cars and especially how they sound. This 240Z video by YouTuber subtledriver not only sounds just right, but the nine minutes of back canyon roads amid sun-dappled sage and rocky crags is pretty mesmerizing as well. Plus the driver claims to have been late for church! Hear the sermon right after the jump.

*Hooniverse does not condone speeding on public streets, nor the violation of any traffic law outside of the event of a zombie invasion, or incoming tsunami. Drive safe, folks.

I wonder how long it actually takes him to get to church?

I had to stop watching, it was bothering me so much that he was resting his right hand on the shifter so much. I'm strange.

    Interesting but needs more corners!
I'm 'back home' with the kid visiting granddad. This morning I made a breakfast run that took me past my old school. In the day, it was in an MGB. An effort in momentum. Crappy tires made every corner a white knuckler.
Making that same run in a car with 5x the power, brakes and tires… Good thing I didn't gopro.

I should borrow my friend's gopro when I'm late for doctor's appointments. I go around corners in my minivan way faster than you'd think a minivan could handle.*
*I do go up on three wheels sometimes now, after mounting new rear shocks. The difference in body roll must've been worth a couple of miles an hour more in corner exit speed.

I've listened to this four times through now, while working on other stuff. Great noise.

This video made me wonder if there are any affordable new cars with great sounding engines… I mean there must be something but I can't think of anything. The Alfa V6 was probably had the best awesome sound/price ratio of any recent engine, but that hasn't been in production for eight years now.

Have listened through twice this morning. That and your comment got me thinking.
        Cheap new car: $18,000
Used Z in decent shape for a good price: $1,500 — a la this: http://fresno.craigslist.org/cto/3900135492.html
Rebuild engine, new paint, new tires, new upholstery, hula girl on dashboard: $5,000
And that sound. Geez. . .
Why would I ever buy a new car again?

I wish I could get a 1500$ Z over here, I've only seen really good ones for 15-40k€. However while looking for old coupes I found this, a green on green(!!) stickshift SLC 280. It's awesome.

Man the L series engines sound beautiful when properly tuned. Only thing that could have made this better is if it had been RB powered 🙂

Maybe a non-turbo RB25 or RB20 with ITBs… A turbo wouldn't sound as nice. But I would use my imaginary pile or moneys on a screaming S20 instead.

Anyone figure out where this Hiway is? Signs & Vegetation indicate So. Cal. but I couldn't get enuff detail of the signage.
