I love me some classic Land Rover. Still, there are plenty of other old school off roaders that I’d love to own someday. The Ford Bronco is one, and the Mercedes G-Wagen is another. Also sharing a podium spot in the muddy section of my Fantasy Finds garage? The Toyota Land Cruiser. More specifically, I have a hankering for an old FJ generation 40 series machine. This recently restored 1966 Land Cruiser fits the bill quite nicely. It appears to be extremely well sorted, and I’d probably only change three things about the truck. First up, I’d swap out the spare tire cover. Yes that is a minor quibble, but I don’t like the 80’s-tastic graphics on this mid-60’s machine. Secondly, I’d go with a more traditional wheel option. Finally, I’d remove that stupid Roll Me Over sticker. I hate when Jeeps or other off road vehicles have those plastered on the glass. The first 100 stickers ever produced were funny… the next 100,000,000 were not. So it’s just a few minor changes to an otherwise nearly perfect Land Cruiser. Under the hood, the crew that restored this Toyota swapped in a 350 V8 engine, that’s paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. The interior space appears to have been sprayed with bed liner, and the exterior has been modified rather tastefully for a vehicle in this category. There are certainly less expensive examples all over the place, but many require a fair amount of wrenching days ahead. This one is ready to be hopped into and driven off into the sunset.
