Falken and Drift Cars go together rather nicely. The tire manufacturer has been a major sponsor of the Formula Drift series since it came to be over 11 years ago, and their logo is gracing some of the top rides in the series today. Apparently Falken is also nuts about drifting even when it’s scaled down a bit.
Oh say to 1/10 R/C car levels.
Falken teamed up with HPI Racing, a talented video team, and a crew of super skilled scale drift pilots. The result is a video that shows off the work of everyone involved (especially the builder of the scaled-down circuit!). It’s a slick little clip, and it makes me want an R/C drift car even more.
If you’re curious how a video like this comes together, it’s worth a look at the Falken blog for some behind the scenes insight.

  1. Streetglow — still cool only in 1/10th scale.
But more seriously, I can’t get worked up over RC anything, because you know that awesome feeling you get when the acceleration pins you in the seat, or you feel the back end slide out? Yeah, you’re not going to be feeling any of those sensations. Even with an open-piped, nitro-burning ICE monster that’s screaming at 110dBA, you’re still just standing there, twiddling your thumbs on joysticks.
    …um, Whoop-a-doo, I guess?

    1. Those days you can’t get to your favorite road, or the track though… the parking lot is a nice alternative, no?

    2. Well, for one, nitro is considerably slower than modern electric R/C…I’d be bored with a nitro car, too.

  2. I like to piss Brad off by sneaking in references to my R/C addiction every week on the podcast. I think he’s finally resigned himself to it.
