Yesterday we took a look at the four-wheel grand prize that’s a part of the eBay Motor Garage Giveaway. Today it’s time to examine the two-wheel machine that’s going to a new home. It’s a 2014 Indian Chief Classic, and, despite the name, it’s fitted with tons of modern tech. Sure, there’s a bit of classic style mixed into this modern looking and sleek cruiser, but there are tons of tricks afoot as well.
You’d expect that to be the case when you’re dealing with a motorcycle that starts at right around $19,000.
[Disclaimer: We teamed up with eBay to bring you information on this contest, which means we’re getting paid to share the message. We’d only do this with stuff we deem cool… and the chance to win a Cadillac CTS or a brand new Indian fit that bill.]
The heart of the Chief Classic lies with its new two-cylinder Thunderstroke 111. It’s a 1.8-liter unit that is rated to return 35 miles per gallon. You’ve got a tick under 120 pound-feet of torque available from betwixt your legs, which should help get the 800-pound beast moving down the highway. Like the modern engine, this bike is fitted with a few additional modern bits. You can fire it up by way of the keyless start system, come to a safe stop with the ABS, and cruise comfortably on a long stretch with the cruise control system.
I had no idea that bikes were now available with cruise control, but it makes sense and would probably be quite welcome on longer hauls.
According to some of the reviews of this machine, it’s clear that Indian has Harley-Davidson lined up firmly in its crosshairs. It’s quite a bit longer than the Harley Softail, which makes highway tracking a much smoother affair. The Chief Classic is priced right in line with the similar offerings from Harley, and it will be interesting to see how the sales shake out over the course of the year.
Regardless, it’s an excellent prize for an online giveaway. The modern bike might not be quite as cool as the older bike seen below, but the familiar resemblance certainly still exists. The winner of this bike, which is available in red, black, or blue, will no doubt be smiling as they ride off into the sunset… with cruise control locked a few ticks over the speed limit.
