The World’s Worst Car Is For Sale On Craigslist
Welcome to Craigslist Crapshoot, our weekly search for the most bizarre, awesome, and/or terrible vehicles that the online classifieds has to offer.
The Nineteen Seventies gave us Disco, Stagflation, Pet Rocks, and newspaper heiresses robbing banks. It also gave us The Godfather Parts I and II, Star Wars, Kate Beckinsale, Leonardo DiCaprio, Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, and cars like the ones you all found last week. We’ll get to those right after the jump, but first I’m sure you’ll jump at the chance to learn this week’s quest.
This week’s search is going to be both sort of esoteric and environmentally conscious. I know last week I asked you to find cars you might want to own, but that’s not a criteria for this week’s search. Instead, I want you to find cars and trucks you probably wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot dipstick. What I want are high-mpg versions of typically low-mpg rides. Let’s see what kind of shape those iron duke Camaros come in these days.
As always, we want your finds to go down in infamy and not in the site’s spam filter. Since we’ve changed commenting systems, you may need to update your commenter account. Make sure you have a Disqus account – they’re free and easy to get – and then comment away.

Got that? Great, now let’s turn back the clock.

I am a child of the ’70s. I don’t remember much about the era – like the general vibe or anything – other than that most people seemed pissed off about something all the time. It might have been the War which leaked into the decade from the sixties, or Nixon who did likewise. Or maybe it was the rise of disco music, a genre that was embraced by half the population and vilified by the other half. The economy stank, and for the most part so did the cars. But that wasn’t universally true.
You all found some wonderful examples of the ’70s best for sale and I’d like to especially note the Little Red Pickup found by PleaseStandBy (who beat 1977ChevyTruck by mere minutes) as an example of a carmaker bending the rules.  When it came to the rules that many thought were ruining cars and trucks here in the States in the ’70s, they really didn’t apply to motorcycles.
The 1975 BMW R90S found by Jeepster is thus the coolest ’70s ride in the pack, and one that I have pined after for years. Of course this bike is in amazing condition and is signed by racing legend Reg Prigmore! which means it’s well outside my pay grade. Still, it’s fun to dream, and after all that’s what we do here every week. Congrats to Jeepster, and thank you all for playing!

    1. My 86 burban 2wd with the 6.2 regularly seen 19 mpg loaded with a 18′ trailer day in, day out. When it didn’t have the trailer swinging off the back it could do 24 mpg without any hyper mile ing tricks. I’d still have it if it wernt stolen from my brothers driveway while I was in hospital.

Ultra nice rock solid body 1-owner Ford Mustang Coupe! This is very nice survivor its a un-restored original Mustang 2.3L 4cyl 4-speed we would keep it org but this gem would make a perfect start to 5.0L 302 5speed conversion key points on that is this is a factory manual transmission car, org nice paint, nice clean rust free body and really needs no cosmetics! The color combo is neat and one of the most clean coupes of this era we have come accross in years! This one looks great in and out and looks to have had years of love! This car looks more like a 5 year old not a 34 year old! The paint shows very nice and looks original, interior is nice and vynal is very clean and not faded-away and perfect dash, super nice org engine bay and org date code ing wires, super nice undercarrage, the chrome and black trim are excellent! We could go on and on with this one but hopefully you get the point! The 2.3L inline 4cyl runs great and 4 speed shifts out spot on! Factory moonroof, original window sticker with dealer ad-on addendum, org owners manual, starting instrution visor sleeve, both sets of aluminum keys and key codes, factory am/fm premium sound works nice, power steering, power brakes, nice correct wheel covers with whitewall radials and much more! Miles listed in ad at 25xxx are in excess of there mech limits on its 5 diget odometer and have turned past 99,999 once and looks to be correct at 125k Mustang will be sold miles exempt in excess of mech limits. 1. Ah….the old 2.3 Lima Pinto drivetrain. a compelling blend of tractor-grade refinement, almost 90bhp, and a thirst on par with today’s F150. Hold me back!
–I bet a Coyote would fit with some shoe horning….but why?

      1. I just couldn’t stop laughing about how they went on and on about how well preserved it was and that it would be great to buy (and pay a premium for) as a car to rip the engine out of.
It has 25,000 miles on it, clearly the previous owner didn’t like driving it.

          1. Neener neener, check out my post a few ways down … the HD (hardley) folks aint going to like it….

    1. My old 225 slant six (85bhp if memory serves) gave about 17mpg downhill with a tailwind in my 1980 D100.

  3. All W220 chassis Mercedes-Benz S-Classes sent to the U.S. had engines with at least 8 cylinders and used the extended wheelbase body…except the S350, which used the short body and the 3.7L M112 gas V6. It must have sold horrendously, because there hasn’t been a SWB S-Class offered here since.
The EPA says the 2006 S350 got 18 mpg combined when new, which is pretty terrible…until you compare it to the V12, LWB S600, which was rated at 13 mpg combined.
This one looks to be a fairly clean, average mileage example for $6,300.

      good pick

      1. Hmmm. If I was trying to sell a car…any car, I would be sure that when I took pictures, the car did not have leaves, cobwebs, and misc. krap all over it. Just me I guess.
