Looking at the RX-8 and Miata, I sometimes wonder if they don’t have each other’s engine by accident. The nimble lightweight roadster seems the better match for a revvy, compact powerplant, no? And imagine an RX8 with a motor that made decent power…what a concept. Anyway, this 914 steals the idea for my RX5 and instead drops Dr Wankel’s machine mid-ships in an otherwise balanced and huck-able platform. The concept seems great, but the execution might be lacking on today’s example. On the good side we’ve got a claimed 200hp 13b in what looks to be a rust-free car. The bad? Just about every page from the Project Car Hell Book of Cliches:
“95% done. The engine starts up and runs for 20 seconds and then fouls the spark plugs. I’m not a rotary trained mechanic, I took this car in on trade on a race car I had for sale. This car needs finishing, needs new paint job and some interior to be repaired. It also needs shifter linkage to be installed.”
Oh, and a buyer feedback of 87%. There’s a lot of upside to a functional rotary-powered 914. The concept is awesome. The question for you (because I’m awash in my own projects), is whether the current $3,950 price is in line with the reality before you. Rotary Powered 1974 Porsche 914 for sale – eBay Motors
