So as this olelongrooffan mentioned in that Modern Art Monday post about a Cadillac restomod I saw, I spent last Saturday driving to Daytona Beach to watch thejeepjunkie and a bunch of black and tan car driving dudes extract the Kid’s black Ranger out of a roadside swale. On the way home, I got off Eisenhower’s Highway 95 and drove a part of the way back to TheStuccoBox on US 1. Alongside that roadway, I spotted what can be seen in the above image from the roadway and I thought my fellow Hoons would enjoy taking a closer look at it with me.
Sitting out in front of a former automotive dealership was this rusty old FJ40. The new 4×4 performance shop was closed up but the motorcycle dealer located in the same facility was open for business. As I pulled my longerroof into the parking lot, a motorcycle sales dude came walking out in an ill fated attempt to sell this olelongrooffan one of his motor scooters.
As is par for the course, I struck up a conversation with him and it evolved into what was up with this rusty old FJ. As it turns out, the performance shop owning dudes found this truckette out in some orchard up near MickeyMouseLand and, like so many of we Hoons do, drug it home.
Ironically enough, over at Hemmings Blog today, their Hemmings Find of the Day is one of this in restored condition. Yeah, and it’s priced at a cool $55 large.
This one not so much. As I am certain my fellow Hoons know, these things are becoming increasingly rare and, even in the sad condition this one is in, are certainly not cheap.
As the motorcycle selling dude and I were talking, he mentioned the owner’s intent is to restore one half of it and leave the other half as is and use it as an advertisement for their business. That sounds like a pretty cool idea to this olelongrooffan.
However, I would suspect once the owners of this rare beast find out what that one over at Hemmings is going for, I doubt they will want to leave that much on the table for merely an advertisement. But who knows?
