I spotted this little number from the Wagons HO! Facebook Page, and it is a curious little beast. I knew these were imported in the later half of the 80’s, and were called the Toyota Corolla All-trac, taking over for the recently discontinued Toyota Tercel All-Trac Wagon, and it maintained most of the bizarre looks of that vehicle, but sold in considerably smaller numbers. Well, here is a Japanese Home Market version that you could call your own… Or Could You? According to the Craigslist listing:
Toyota 4WD Sprinter Carib Wagon- Touring Special This Right hand drive wagon was built to last and has all the extras: -height control (front end automatically lifts with the push of a button) -centre difflock (never get stuck anywhere…) -full time 4 wheel drive -power steering, power windows, power mirrors and sunroof -cd player -AC -most components are the same as Toyota Corolla wagon -includes all season tires, plus a set of winter tires with rims -excellent condition, new clutch (2013), brakes (2011), new battery (2013) I purchased this right hand drive, Japanese import from an importer in Armstrong, BC (http://mustang.bc.ca/)- you can visit his site for more detailed specs. This car has been very reliable and I am sad to see it go. With two additions to the family, we are needing to upgrade to a larger vehicle! If you are not familiar with RHD- they can be imported from Japan once they hit 15 years old. The cars are well taken care of and brought over with low kilometers.
Asking price for this Japanese Terror is $2,800 and I would suspect that would be in Canadian Funds, so I guess that’s, er, $2,500 US… Right? Anyway, do you think it could be imported into the US as it stands right now? I am going to reach out to the experts here, ans ask if a US citizen could legally import this vehicle into the states as it sits… Comment away. Oh, and take a look at the Detroit Metro Craigslist listing here.
