Yes, this is a Wagon Wednesday Posting that I decided to share with all of you here on Hooniverse. Yes, it has been some time since my last Wagon Wednesday post, but this car was so special that i had to share it with all of you.
This is a last year Packard Wagon, one of only 159 built (according to the listing) for their final year, and it is in original condition. According to the listing:
Super Rare, one of only 159 built and I am told that only 29 are known to still exist! One family owned since new this survivor is still wearing it Black plates!
Showing only 65530 miles it appears to have been faithfully maintained over the years
Beautiful Park green with Surf green top and green interior.Runs and drives good for a 55 year old classic, it starts right up cold or hot, goes down the road straight and true, the engine runs great, transmission works as it should with no slippage, the dual exhaust is new and sounds great, suspension feels tight, turn signals work and self cancel, gauges work and the tires are newer.
The car looks great in the pictures, but upon closer inspection you will find some faded paint, paint chips and scratches, some pitting on the chrome and wear and tear associated with a car of this age. The dash pad has lost all of its padding foam due to heat, the clock, horn and heater do not work. This being a Southern California car all of its life, it could almost be called rust free, there are however a couple of very small spots of rust that I have pictured.
This is a car that could be enjoyed for a couple of years before undergoing a full concourse restoration, and it is fairly affordable right now. The high bid so far (as of Sunday Afternoon) is $9,202, but I am sure that the price will go much higher when the auction closes on Sunday the 15th. What do you think of this very odd Wagon? Looks great in that shade of green.
I love the cars of the late 50s, but sadly the only really attractive part of the exterior styling are those yummy tailfins, tail lights and rear bumper.
I have seen these Packard's on either bringatrailer.com or Hemmings – doesn't really matter, except that everytime I see these, I get all aroused… Unbelievably gorgeous vehicles! Everything seems right, even though the waste of space between the fins is incredible.
I don't need this I don't need this I don't need this I don't need this be strong be strong be strong…
Sweet…just damn..
Wow, the last Packardbaker was the best – tacked-on four-headlamp system and all (seriously, it's a quad-light pod screwed on to the standard '57 twin-headlamp fender). Love that fishmouth grille and '56 Clipper taillights. And if memory serves, all the wagons received a McCullough-supercharged Studey mill.
