Welcome to another Hooniverse Truck Thursday Tuesday posting. Yes I know this day is reserved for the Bikes, but since this auction closes within a day and 1/2, I thought I would share it with all the Hoons today.

As you are well aware, any mention of the Chevrolet El Camino instantly perks the interest of our fan base, and this one is rather rare. No, it is not an SS 396, or even an SS 350. This is a very basic, 6-cylinder, Three-On-The-Tree standard shift, no radio, refrigerator white model, that still rolls on its original Uniroyal Bias Ply tires. Tell me that isn’t Hooniversalustworthy…

According to the listing:

1970 CHEVY EL CAMINO **ALL ORIGINAL SURVIVOR*** ONLY 5550 MILES

I’M LISTING THIS CAR FOR A FRIEND, HE HAS OWNED IT FOR 9 YEARS. HE BOUGHT IT FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. ALWAYS GARAGE KEPT SINCE NEW. SINCE NEW STORED WINTERS ON JACK STANDS SO NOT TO GET FLAT SPOTS ON TIRES, AND DOORS ONLY ON 1ST LATCH SO NOT TO COMPRESS WEATHER STRIPS.

MORE RARE THAN A LS5 OR LS6 CAR. IT SPORTS A 250CI 6CYL WITH A 3-SPEED MANUAL COLUMN SHIFT, 1 OF 1307 PRODUCED IN THIS FORMAT. THE MOTOR HAS ALL THE ORIGINAL BELTS WITH GM PART NUMBER BURNED INTO IT, ALL 5 DATE CODED TIRES, ORIGINAL T-3 HEADLIGHTS, PERFECT ORIGINAL GLASS, PLASTICHROME ON DASH AND STEERING WHEEL IS IN SUPER CONDITION. ALL ORIGINAL SEATS, HEADLINER, DOOR PANELS, SEAT BELTS, AND RUBBER FLOOR MATS. I BELIEVE THAT THE WIPER BLADES AND EVEN THE VALVE STEM CAPS ARE ORIGINAL. THE CHROME ON THE CAR IS VERY NICE, HOWEVER THE REAR BUMPER ONLY HAS SOME OF THE CHROME CRACKING ON IT.

This car/truck is currently at $24,600 with an unmet reserve. So what do you think it will take to call this sold? See the listing [sc:ebay itemid=”261241641644″ linktext=”Survivor 1970 Chevy El Camino” ], and tell me if this isn’t the most luscious El Camino ever.

That would be a wonderful driver. But not at that price.

Forever a garage queen? I hope not.

Half the price and double the miles and you might get to hoonworthy, but maths has never been my strong suit.

Hmmm, let's see – Blown 572 crate motor, 12 bolt diff, tubbed rear wells with fatties, and an open-ended Sunoco card. No prisoners !!

I'm all for "original" but 43 year old belts on the engine, and 43 year old cross-ply tyres underneath are a bit too original for me.
I suppose some OCD types would like that kind of thing though…

Lets not forget the 43 year old windsheild wipers as well.

And 43-year-old air in the tires! :-p

I, for one, welcome our new Truck Tuesday overlords.

This would be a great weekend car, perfect for tooling around on a sunny Saturday. Save the M/T's and the 9" rear end for the drag strip.

Sweet survivor but a real wheezer to drive.
I understand why it has few miles.

Keep it allmost original, just hang some Webers to the side of the 250 and redo the exhaust manifold.

Jim, I don't know how old you are, but y'see that think with two knobs on it, next what used to be called a cigarette lighter?
OEM AM radio. 🙂 This one even has push-buttons for station memory! I know the factory AM in my '67 Dodge A-108 passenger van didn't…but the tuning/volume knobs were hefty enough, you could hurt someone if you threw one at 'em.
I'm teasing, of course, though it doesn't have an MP3 input so something is obviously amiss.

This may be considered heretical, but what's the point?
Cars are meant to be driven, and this one can't be. As soon as you start putting more miles on it than are acquired rolling it on/off a trailer, you've blown your $24k+ investment. Leave it as it is, and you have a big investment (time wise, at least) in caring for a 40+yo car that has no purpose, and you're still left with a very basic ElCo. If you want to stuff a museum, then, I guess I get it. If I had the spare cash, I'd be way more into this as an old car – at least it's used as designed.

In 40+ years, I don't think I've ever seen a six-cylinder El Camino, or one with dog dish hubcaps. I'd love to drive it, but not on 43-year-old maypops.

The auction closed, with the thing unsold at almost $28k. The seller needs to lower his sights.
