FSC, full name of which is Fabryka Samochodów Ciężarowych, was a state-owned truck manufacturer during the communist era. They made a series of trucks called Star, named after Starachowice, the city in which they were made. In the 1990s, after the fall of communism, the company changed hands a few times but continued to manufacture trucks which were designed, but supposedly improved, in the 1970s up until 1999 when it was taken over my German MAN.
Pictured above is late model Star 8.125 (I think) manufactured some time between 1999 and 2005. Its frame casually broke in half in the the middle of a Warsaw street. Oops.

Well, ain’t that a shame? The heavy front engine pulled the front-end down and the, supposedly empty, cargo area went up.
What caused it? Perhaps corrosion due to salt, perhaps a weak frame, perhaps it’s been previously overloaded or even wrecked. Perhaps all of the above, I don’t know. I’ve seen frames bend before but never broken in half like that in the middle of the street.

OHMYGAWD!!! LOOK AT THAT TOW TRUCK LOOKING MERCEDES G-CLASS BEHIND IT!!!! I WANT IT!!!!

So yea, that sucks. And it’s kinda funny.

  1. If the box is empty and the wheels are sat that far up in the wheel arches, the rear springs must be pretty flattened from being overloaded. Guessing that + potholes cracked the frame, corrosion set in, crack got worse…

  2. I think a direct translation of that wonderful FSC name is needed too: its the Factory of Vehicles of the Truck-type. It is a wonderful Communist era name. Of course the other vehicle factory, FSO, made cars, with the O standing for Passenger.

  3. Presumably this truck was built out of two wrecks. Thats pretty common in eastern Europe.
Although the paint job did work this time -unfortunately DIY ladder frame did not.

  4. I just realised that something is also wrong with the tow truck. One rear axle is missing, so even towing might not work 🙁
