Even if they’re not mighty big machines, hill climb beasties are the stuff of legend and nightmare. Take, for example, this delightful MkI Volkswagen Golf. It’s 1.6-liter engine makes 250 horsepower and spins to 10,600 rpm. It sounds purposefully evil and looks right at home tearing up this hill climb course.

I think hillclimb is probably my favorite motorsport. It’s about going flat out, none of yer preserving the tyres or other egghead strategy, just fastest one up the hill wins and an incredible diversity of classes and cars of all eras. It’s probably the motorsport I’d most like to do given the chance, it’s about driving with precision rather than “racecraft” or trying to outpsych your openents. It’s really just you vs. the hill and the clock really.
