BMW’s radical take on the performance hybrid is not just the company’s unique vision of the future, it’s also very, very shiny and reflective.

  1. Modern finishes with amazing flowability have rendered orange peel all but a thing of the past. Is there a term for the contemporary equivalent, where the reflective particulates in the color layer align to create this dog’s breakfast in the valleys?

  2. This story gets a little long, but whatever.
I was in Copenhagen with my dad two days ago. He plays the bagpipe (yes) and Swedish and Danish pipers come together to play now and then. This was one of those times, so while he had been playing in another part of town I had spent the day roaming around by myself.
My aunt lives in a Swedish city called Lund, which is only about 40 minutes by train from Copenhagen, so we were going to go there by the evening. However, my dad called me and said we were getting a ride from one of his bagpiping friends instead. I’m picked up in a rather worn down Volkswagen Touareg V8, noticing Nürburgring stickers on the back. During the ride it turns out he is Swedish but lives in Germany and works for a French auction firm by travelling around Europe chasing down valuable classic cars. He was now on his way to look at a Maserati 3500 GT and a De Tomaso Mangusta. Also, he used to own an Osca. I don’t know how I didn’t know this man was in our circles before.
