Today’s retro-inspired Morgan trikes are powered by a modern S&S X-Wedge V-twin, but the originals like the one above could be had with a number of engines from JAP. That of course stands for its founder’s name – John Alfred Prestwitch. Another area where the new trike deviates from the old is in the front suspension.
The latest trike from Malvern sports a coil-over suspension with aggressively angled dampers while the Morgans of old featured sliding pillars. It was good enough for the Romans, it should still be good enough for Morgans of today!

And lubricated by engine oil?

“…it [sliding pillar suspension] should still be good enough for Morgans of today!”
Well, isn’t it, aside from the Aero and the trike? -
Do you think the hypermiling crowd of potential Elio buyers will feel the pull of the much more exciting Morgan or is there really room for two separate camps of tadpole pilots in our market?
-
The Morgan is literally ten times the (if it actually happens) price of the Elio.
I’m not even kidding, AFAIK most of the Three-Wheelers are being advertised over $70k.
Also, the Elio will get quite a bit better fuel economy, due to better aerodynamics, half the displacement, and better cylinder temperature control (due to watercooling).

In other news… I finally saw Fury Road. Excellent Mad Max movie, much more like Road Warrior than the first and third ones. My one real trouble with it? Norman Fell.

Norman fell played Mr. Roper on Three’s Company, and always had this mopey, pained, put-upon, misanthropic look on his face. About halfway through the film I realized Tom Hardy was a dead ringer for Norman Fell and my bubble was burst. So F-U again, Three’s Company; now you’ve ruined Mad Max.

Also in other news, the shift rod adjustment sleeve on my 245 sheared in half while attempting to put the car in drive… leaving it stuck in reverse on my girlfriend’s parent’s lawn. I had to jam myself under the car to manually move the shift arm on the transmission to drive so I could get home. Now I need to cobble the shift linkage back together with something, probably made out of zipties and/or bailing wire, so I have a car to drive, since the part I need is NLA from Volvo.

You still got home! Try a junk yard?

I found out this morning when I investigated the problem with the car on ramps, that the issue was a crimped-on washer that held the adjuster to the L-bracket that attaches to the transmission shift arm had pulled the crimp apart and fallen off.
I fixed it by flaring the crimp back out with a punch, cutting a chunk out of a small similarly-sized washer, flaring the washer out with some pliers, and jamming my modified washer in there like a circlip. After crushing the modified washer back down around the adjuster, everything’s held together tightly. Hopefully it holds together for another 220k miles.
