Last Call- Mob Rules Edition

la0612sherryscohenscadix Mickey Cohen was a gangster, one of the Jewish Mafia, and a larger than life character in the history of Los Angeles. On July 20th, 1949 at 3:55 AM, Cohen and his entourage were leaving Sherry’s, a Hollywood hangout favored by such Tinseltown luminaries as Shirley Temple. There, in front of the entrance, Cohen was ambushed by members of rival mob leader Jack Dragna’s gang. Cohen’s bodyguard was killed in the shotgun attack, while others were critically injured. Cohen escaped death, but his arm was shot up pretty bad in this, the second attempt on his life. Following the Sherry’s ambush, Cohen commissioned a one of a kind 1950 Cadillac that had been modified to be both bullet-proof and bomb-proof. The car featured 1 ¾” glass, bullet-proof tires, armor plating, and came at a cost of over $16,000. Cohen used the car when he arrived to give testimony before the U.S. Senate Special Committee to Investigate Organized Crime in Interstate Commerce.
