Last Call: Gentle Giant Edition

Andre
You might at first look at this 1960s picture of André René Roussimoff – known to millions as André the Giant – and think he’s resting nonchalantly on the hood of this Aston Martin. Then you notice the straining leather of his shoes, and the fact that the Aston’s front  tires are off the ground and you realize – he’s helping someone change the oil!
Last Call indicates the end of Hooniverse’s broadcast day. It’s meant to be an open forum for anyone and anything. Thread jacking is not only accepted, it’s encouraged.

About ten years ago I met a truck on a narrow ice road that was shaped like an inverted U. Tried to make space, slid off the edge. The truck driver stopped, got out, and said calmly: “Put it in reverse”. Then he proceded to lift the front end of my 1977 Volvo 242 while I gently tipped the gas. Hence: Free again. I was so impressed, he received a bottle of whiskey* I had in my car because I was on the way to friends.
*alcohol is just as highly taxed as cars up north, the bottle was worth ~85$.

Did he try to rhyme? “Put it in reverse . . . .Ok we’re done; let’s disperse!”

That would have been worth a whiskey and a chocolate.

You might at first look at this 1970s picture of a Mercedes-Benz 300SL – known to millions as the Gull Wing – and think it’s parked nonchalantly in front of the owner’s house. Then you notice the sagging rear suspension, and the fact that hundreds of kilos of lumber are hanging out of the trunk and you realize – it’s a pickup truck!

That’s a 300SL Roadster with a removable hardtop, not a gullwing. Either way, it’s nice to see one being put to practical use. It was probably too much trouble to figure out how to load all this into the VW.

Obviously, but it’s the most fitting nickname to fill into the copypaste text from the original article.

Actually that’s a wood gas generator equipped 300SL Roadster, preparing for a long trip.

Wow. Cars being used as cars, I second that. Here’s my ’71 Volvo 145 in ca 2011 or so:
