There is a You Tube member, MIRADART, that has been sharing their collection of classic Car & Track videos, and the first one I want to share is the Avanti II. To see some of these videos, you will have to make the jump…
Here is the Avanti II:
The 1969 Chevrolet Impala:
The 1973 Oldsmobile Cutlass:
The 1970 Jeepster Commando:
The 1972 Buick Riviera:
And for something a little different, the Volkswagen Dasher:
Take a look on Youtube, and look for these videos….
Somebody put up the Dasher one on Jalopnik this morning.
Good stuff anyway!
I saw this post and immediatly thought of that 1969 Impala review, the howl of those bias ply tires and the performance of those drum brakes makes me long for that car
It's great seeing the Avanti road test. I'd forgotten that you could get them supercharged, and the engine has a nice snarl to it. It really needs a posi though. Thanks for the post.
They said the Avanti was an Italian design? I thought it was Raymond Loewy?
Yep, Loewy. And actually Loewy himself and not Bob Bourke and the other boys in the office, like so many other "Loewy" designs.
I especially enjoyed the Dasher review for some reason…
I've always wanted an Avanti, now even more than ever and suddenly an Avanti II is a viable approach.
My Dad had a Jeepster when I was three. One of my earliest memories is getting it stuck fording a stream with him driving. He had to hop out and engage the hubs with wet feet. With 4WD, a lot more is possible. I really enjoyed seeing the road test.
Oh for the days when doing a reverse spin was a standard car review test method. It's in the olds test.
