Of all the great shitbox race cars on the planet, you certainly have to have one that stands out in your head as an all-time great. While I love the car shown above, our very own Überbird, it doesn’t sit as my all-time favorite machine to run at a 24 Hours of LeMons event.
There have been so many greats though, and one that sticks out for me is the Lincoln Town Car limo that was done up to resemble the Titanic. A pair of support cars were built to resemble ice bergs. As I drove away from the track during the evening, I could see the smoke stacks and a string of lights as the Titanic limo continued to turn laps at Buttonwillow.
Another car on my list would be The Homer. The execution on that car was unreal. In fact, it was so well done that the team and car were invited to Fox studios to meet the creators of the Simpsons.
What LeMons “race car” is your favorite? Sound off below.

We’re going to see a SAAB 96 here any minute, so let me push in another Swede first. Classically beautiful design that surprises showing up in this context:

The themed cars are cool, but, imho, themes are fun for a moment, then you’ve seen it. The two engine Toyota feature here on the ‘verse a while back was pretty fantastic though.-
Well, after all, that 96 is a nice car.

That’s not a 96: it’s a 34.

Thanks for saving me the trouble of having to find a photo of my favorite.

Even though I love The Homer, I was especially proud of how this turned out given how crude it was.

That is fintastic!

There are so many good options…I don’t know about greatest of all time, but as far as a personal favorite, I’ve always had a soft spot for the Black Metal V8olvo. There are other cars with crazier stuff happening technically, more elaborate theming, etc., but…this has a huge Top Fuel-style intake scoop and vacuum-actuated skulls. How can you not love that?

I’m partial to the Faster Farms Racing ’66 Plymouth Belvedere

Thanks for the shout out for The Homer. It’s been broken for quite a while, sadly.

I’m partial to Speedycop’s barn find 1963 Thunderbird convertible which originally ran the stock 390 and Cruise-O-Matic, followed by an attempt to run a BMW V12 followed by a BMW straight 6 diesel.
