Last week we introduced the eBay Dream Racing Sweepstakes to you, and this week we’re going to take a closer look at the machine that the winner will get to pilot. It’s a Ferrari F430 GT race car, and it’s setup to take maximum advantage of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway circuit.
Under the rear decklid sits a 4.3-liter V8 engine, which produces 512 horsepower and can push the car from 0-60 miles per hour in less than three seconds. This is not simply the stock engine plunked down inside a slightly lighter F430. Instead, the intake and exhaust have been swapped out and the computer has been remapped. The throttle response is faster, and the overall experience is, quite simply, more.

These cars also receive upgrades to the brakes, tires, suspension, aero bits, and even the gauge cluster. Racing slicks are utilized at each corner, as are larger diameter rotors and soft compound brake pads. The suspension has the car sitting a few inches lower than the road car, and the springs are stiffer units (tee hee!). A front splitter, rear diffuser, and large rear wing help keep the red rocket (ha!) sticking to the tarmac.
Drivers who slide behind the wheel will also notice the digital display where the analog gauges should be. It’s bright, easy to read, and can display far more information than the original gauges. In fact, there’s a G-meter and tons of other data points being acquired by this upgraded system.
Here’s a video that takes a look at a variety of the upgrades I just mentioned. It’s a bit on the cheesy side, and we wish they actually explained the upgrades in the clip instead of simply popping up a tiny bit of text over dramatic music. Still, the visuals are enjoyable.
