I’ve made no bones about my affinity for older Mazdas, especially the venerable 626. It was Mazda’s family car and all-around workhorse for many years, and my 86 coupe survived many college hijinks and interstate (literally) journeys with almost no trouble. It’s because of my fond memories of the 626 and their reliability that I find myself looking at this one, and what a looker it is.

Probably my favorite part of this car, aside from the delicious chocolate paint, is this 2.0-liter engine. Good for about 80 hp, it wasn’t a sports car by any means, but it was enough for daily driving.

You just don’t see an engine bay this clean on a 32-year old car. That bright really pops against the brown on the rest of the car, n’est-ce pas?

Even the black molded bumpers are in good shape. This car must have spent a lot of time in the garage and/or being driven very carefully. The AAA sticker is always nice to see, although I’m not sure what to make of the WCW license plate frame. Wrasslin’ fan?

For something so plain and boxy and brown, you may wonder why this car would be in any way appealing. Of course, you’re on Hooniverse, so you probably aren’t. Either way, what do you think of a cheap little blast from the past like this?
