  • Helsinki Weekend Edition – 1981 Fiat 124 Spider 2000

I’ve shot an earlier, orange Fiat 124 Spider some time ago, but this one is of the latter batch. I also detect the presence of 5mph bumpers, which give this 1981 124 Spider some New York charm – to be charitable. The green colour with a contrasting tan top and tan leather interior really make…

  • Helsinki Weekend Edition – Yellow Saab 9-3 Cabriolet

I first became aware of this very car in 2007-ish, when I was working in the central Helsinki webdesign agency situated on the same street. The yellow 2000 Saab 9-3 cabriolet was a familiar sight on my commute, parked around the neighbourhood, slowly getting more knocks on its bumpers and especially on the front plate.…

This weekend, I’m posting some of the streetside shots I took a week ago in Helsinki. It’s a weird place: it’s our only city, with a population of some 600,000 people – even if the capital urban region has some 1,300,000 people living in and around Helsinki. Some of the more well-off neighbourhoods are good…

  • Case of the Mondays – Mercedes Dents: 1985 Mercedes-Benz 280S

Here’s one of the nicer-looking old Mercedes-Benzes I’ve seen lately. For every rust-free W126 S class, there are two dozen rusty and dirty ones belching on our streets. This custard yellow 1985 280S sat on a Helsinki street, seemingly flawless. No rust anywhere. But, the other side looked quite different, I’m sad to say.

  • Awesome Corvette Week – 1976 Chevrolet Corvette in a tan shade

Yesterday’s purple custom Corvette C4 wasn’t an easy sight on the eyes. Obviously, we need to scale back the aggressiveness, and here’s a 1976 Chevrolet Corvette C3, finished in a colour that reminds me of plastic mannequins – or an unpainted scale model, if models are what we’re talking about. The tan Vette is a…

  • Air Force One – Customized 1987 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

This 1987 Chevrolet Corvette convertible embraces the ’80sness of the ‘Vette. Everything on it is done over the top, from the purple paint job to the outrageous rear wing. And yes, it actually does say AIR FORCE ONE on it. Like the namesake ’80s sneakers, I love it for the tastelessness of it. Talking Vettes…

  • Weekend Edition – May 1st Cruise: Seen Around Town

In this, the last May 1st Cruise post I show a bunch of cars I saw scrambled around the town after the cruise had ended. The machinery here is various: cars attracted to the town centre by the sunny weather and people out and about. The first sighting to report is this ice silver Porsche…

The prize-winning drifting weirdos/heroes from the region, Black Smoke Racing, were also present at the parking lot where the May 1st cruise started off. I didn’t notice if they did a lap around the town, but I made sure to snap a couple of photos of their new drifting weapon when they were showing it…

  • Weekend Edition – May 1st Cruise: Classic European Cars

My May Day Weekend Edition posts continue, and today it’s time to move onto the European cars photographed on the May 1st cruise in Kokkola, Finland. As expected, the turn-out was somewhat centred on American cars, but there were a number of very nice European cars present, some of them exceptionally rare.

Now that we’ve gotten the older and the more ostentatious vehicles out of the way, here are some of the more muscular and sporty American cars seen on May 1st. It probably won’t surprise you if I tell you there’s going to be a lot of Mustangs. The Camaro, with its eyes closed, was a…
